I LOVE VINEGAR VERA (WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKENHEARTED)
Written by Nadia Drews
Directed by Jen Heyes
Dramaturg – Jen Heyes
Co – produced by Cut to the Chase Productions and Nadia Drews
We have been working in collaboration with Nadia Drews, the plays author, for the past 12 months, to co – produce the world premiere of this fantastic new play.
Originally developed through North West Playwrights nurturing scheme I love Vinegar Vera has been through a lot of development before reaching this full scale production stage.
‘I Love Vinegar Vera’(What Becomes of the Brokenhearted)’ is a play that defends the right of all people to be vulnerable and all vulnerable people to be given their rights . It challenges all the judgement callers, Kyles and Cowells and all others alike to …to care. It calls out to all lost souls and soul fans. It calls for an end to the condemnation.
Does the chancer deserve to be given a second chance? Should we all be given the benefit of the doubt? Come to the pub and see the regulars as you have never seen them before. Cut to the Chase productions continue the innovative, site specific approach which shaped their triumphant Wall Talks and present this passionate and polemical new work written by Nadia Drews and directed by Jen Heyes. Politics, poetry and a pint are combined in one unique theatrical event. The snarl, and the swagger of Berkoff’s East are brought up north. You will be left with a hangover you won’t want to forget.
Life can be a sick joke….A man walks into a pub….. There was a loose woman called ………… Vera and Joe. You couldn’t make it up could you? Vera…you know Vera ? You might have heard her called her some other names ….you might have made up a few yourself…a local character….always a drama….tragic…She drank too much and she said too much and there was nowhere for her to go…but down. The same old sob story. … Who cares? Only the likes of Joe…you know Joe………he can’t help himself…. lame? ……… lost ?….he will love you…… ..He loves her. Bleeding heart meets bleeding tart. You’ve got to laugh….or you’d have to cry.
You know how it will end. Or do you? Maybe it is you who decides?

Tate Liverpool
Young Tate Liverpol is a group of around 15 members with a strong interest in the arts. They range from 17-25 and have a wealth of experience programming events in the gallery. This process of production is mediated and managed by the Youth and Community Curator Shaun Curtis ( who is moving onto a new position at Tate London this Friday!) There most recent project was to curate a Tate collection display with counterparts from galleries in Paris, Helsinki and London as a part of a major European project and produce the catalogue to accompany the exhibition.
Through this project they took part in a performance at Centre Pompidou directed by Fatou Traoré, an experience they wish to build on with their next project.
This next project is to produce an event in response to the forthcoming Alice in Wonderland exhibition at Tate Liverpool between 4th November – 29th January. To create this new production they will collaborate CttC artistic director Jen Heyes with creative input from Punchdrunk Enrichment director Pete Higgin. The project will be managed by Karen Green.
We had our first meeting today in the Tate cafe. First time for us all to meet and discuss the project. Punchdrunk’s Enrichment director Pete Higgin travelled up from London met by Joe from Young Tate at Lime Street Station for our 2 hour team discussion/presentation by Shaun Curtis and discussion with representative members of the Young Tate team. We have an opportunity to take a peak at the as yet ‘top secret’ Alice in Wonderland planned exhibits.Very exciting . . . We also have an opportunity to take a look around the building and view possible spaces. Karen, Pete and I play catch up as Shaun and Young Tate members share their ideas around the project to date as well as their hopes and expectations for the collaboration.
We begin devising in September more news then . . .

TREASURED: THE AWESOME AND THE INTIMATE

Inspiration
When Giles Gilbert Scott designed Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral his intention was to create a space that captured the awesome and the intimate. As well as being one of Europe’s most awe inspiring cathedrals, he created an iconic architectural wonder which contains a myriad of intimate details in tiny carvings and corners: and as such, he generated an intimate space with an intimate god, irrespective of one’s personal faith.
Photos which demonstrate the power of the setting can be seen here:
Vision
In 2012, our partnership aims to collaborate to bringing an extraordinary piece of multimedia spectacle to the Cathedral and the wider community: Treasured: the awesome and the intimate.
