A review of Wall Talks:

Wall Talks - 5 stars
Immigration, slavery, raves and war - to label Cut To The Chase's latest production as a kaleidoscopic epic almost seems a study in understatement. Staged in the majestic Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse as a promenade piece, it pulls the audience through 150 years of Liverpool's history, from the building's founding to the possible spectre of redevelopment.
Capturing a century and a half of social change is a tough brief, one with the obvious potential to sprawl rather than entertain, but Wall Talks is held together by Andrew Sherlock's tight script. The palette of characters - from Jewish immigrants to American GIs - seems diffuse, but subtle motifs and connections keep arising, providing a narrative thread and an intelligent commentary on Liverpool's status as port and cultural melting pot.
Occasionally rough around the edges, there are flashes of immense imagination and breathtaking beauty here, such as when dancer Clementina Clemendore pirouettes across a pool of water. Drawing on local talent, the small cast of six are exemplary in their demanding roles, especially Ebony Feare who, as asylum-seeker Latasha, serves as both guide and chorus.
In the current climate of conventional theatre, Wall Talks stands out as a unique and brave experience. One that deserves a wide audience.
